LEARNING OUTSIDE THE CLASS ROOM

Treynor High School senior Katie Knowles obtained permission from school administrators to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum on Defense, Intelligence, and Diplomacy in Washington, DC last October. Katie explained she was one of 300 high school juniors and seniors selected for the forum. The forum required considerable work to participate in a simulation of real world defense and diplomacy situations. Kati said it was a new experience for her to talk to peers about national issues and the possible courses of action and consequences. The group was given special tour status at several US government buildings and local national monuments and parks. Katie said she felt she was a part of US history, especially while visiting the US Supreme Court. From interaction with FBI staff assisting with the forum Katie said her interest in a career with the FBI was reinforced.
